Birth Photography

I'd love to capture all the miraculous moments of your baby's birth! Being present to photograph a birth is just as much an honor as being a doula at one. Birth is a sacred, intimate and intense event. The changeable flow of events lends itself perfectly to the candid style of photography that I was trained in (photojournalism). 

Typically I would arrive when you are in active labor in the birth setting of your choice. I capture as much/little of labor as you wish, the birth of the baby (crowning images are your choice), newborn bonding moments, newborn exams, feeding, and some initial simple family pictures. Some families like to have pictures with their caregivers if possible as well.

No photographs will be shared with anyone without prior approval from you. 

After the birth I'll make a DVD of unprocessed large-size JPEG files for you to view, select photos & print at your discretion.  At this time I do not professionally retouch photos or handle prints. Though I have previous experience in this field, birth photography is a new arena for me and I'm still learning and adding to my photo editing skills. I do usually take around 5-15 favorite images and work them up in black and white, sized 4x6 and ready to share with family/friends via print, online or e-mail. I e-mail these to you within a few days of the birth, so you have them while you wait for your DVD.

I also offer a lower price for my services because I need the experience. At present this can be added to my birth doula fee at a discounted rate of $50, or available as a standalone service, meaning I would be on call simply to photograph the birth and not in a birth doula capacity. 

Currently for photography-only services my fee is $300, with $150 due when you secure my services as your birth photographer, and $150 due after the birth.
